Brief History of the Boothbay Harbor Opera House
The Boothbay Harbor Opera House was originally built by The Knights of Pythias, a fraternal order who used the house as a lodge. Over the years, it changed roles several times and served as a restaurant and bar, private home, performance hall, and even a failed mini-mall. In 2009, the opera house earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
A non-profit organization purchased the struggling property and, after multiple fundraising projects, managed to restore and save the opera house. Today, the support of the community and visitors alike keep the old opera house thriving and open all year round.
